July 2014 Minutes

July's meeting began with the Pledge, Dave Doherty presiding.

Our guest speaker had another engagement, so no presentation will follow.

Don Doherty gave the Treasurer's report, including checking and savings account balances.

We got a price break for shirts, so we bought a new batch. Dave recalled the early days of the chapter when we debated on the logo. Al Lowe's son eventually drew it up with the Spirit of St. Louis flying past the Arch, rather than through it. He found a local firm, Tiny Little Monster, who made the shirts up for a good price, and will get a quote from them for the lifetime members' jackets.

Bob Murray, potential member and visitor was present. He has no plane, but a private pilot's license from way back.

Last week was our monthly Young Eagles event. Rick May reported that we flew 52 kids. Jeff Stephensen, Don Jonas, Ron Burnett, Dave Doherty and Joe Sargent all flew kids. So far this year we've flow 105 in 71 flights. If you're doing this on your own make sure you get new registration forms (dated 2013 or later) from Rick. Next event is August 10. Hunter Malugen recently attended the Air Academy and had a good time. Ron Burnett mentioned Dominic Darst, a boy he's flown twice, and Jeff has flown once, told him he wants to become an airline pilot.

Election for president and secretary. We need a committee to decide who the candidates will be. (Not too tough of a job when both incumbents plan to continue.)

The KR-2 Ron Wright found is still in a chapter hangar. We're hoping to salvage some parts for the Fly Baby.

Art Zemon donated a single-wheel tug. We have a few interested parties and may sell to the highest bidder. Ron Wright says they can go for a couple thousand dollars.

Jeff set up a Friday night date for the holiday banquet. All Saturdays are booked. He tentatively booked it for 12/12 pending feedback from the chapter.

Airventure's coming up at the end of the month. Dave and Jeff flew up last week to stake out a campsite. Typically we have a chapter picture taken, at what this year is called the "Pathway Pavilion." Gale mentioned getting together Thursday at Paul's Mustang. Dave Doherty proposes 11 a.m. He'll post this on the Yahoo board.

Don Jonas mentioned the Cessna 170 club's having a fly-in at Creve Coeur. They're doing a Poker Run, and suggested that we act as a stop for a future, similar event.

September 20 is the CAF Hangar Dance. October 11 a cystic fibrosis bike tour will stop at the airport. This is also a Young Eagles day. October 25 is the airport open house and annual pumpkin drop. We'll have a food concession at the ARC and will display aircraft and open the ARC.

The Thunderbirds will be there with other acts.

Rod Hightower called Dave to ask if the chapter was interested in his RV-12 project. Dave has replied in the affirmative and is awaiting further communications.

We're in the process of setting up a fabric covering workshop and are looking for someone with experience.

Next month, Alan Frasier, a McDonnell Douglas test pilot will be our guest speaker.

Dave would like to see newsletter articles from other members. Feel free to send submissions to Jim Bower.

Rob Burnett has food coupons available for Shop & Save and Dierberg's.

Dave Domeier finished his RV-8 and flew it in to the meeting. He has about 19 hours and 53 landings. "Most of them decent." He reports that this is his first tailwheel aircraft.

Motion made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.
